Since 2004 I've been involved with the Mostar Contemporary Music Festival. Founded by American pianist/composer Tim Dunne, the festival works in conjunction with musicians from Mostar to provide a series of free new music concerts and free composition, improvisation and instrumental lessons for children. We've also collected donations of instruments for the conservatories and music therapy program there, and raised money to enable local music teachers to provide scholarships for music lessons. Most recently, we raised $1,000 to buy two half-size cellos for cello students at the conservatory. Other musicians involved with this project include Maria Gacesa (clarinet), Emily Eagen (soprano), Niklas Schmidt (composer), Albert Barbeta (violin), Raimundo Penaforte (violin/improvisation, pictured working with children at the Pavarotti Center in Mostar), Merima Kljuco (accordion) and Dragan Latincic (composer). Should you happen to wish to make a donation to this project, either of money for scholarships or of good quality instruments, please get in touch! |
